HERE AND NOW - 2023/2025

My work is deeply personal, serving as both a therapeutic reconnection to my creative process and an exploration of my later-life experiences. Through abstraction, I reflect on the complex layers of emotion, memory, and self-discovery that have shaped my journey. My creative process is intuitive, driven by a desire to experiment, play, and explore the unknown. I love the freedom of the abstract and the challenge of the figurative element. My process combines acrylic paint, spray paint, and collage to create colourful compositions that dance between abstraction and figuration. The titles are also as significant as the piece itself.

'THE WINTER KEEPER'
MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS
61CM X 61CM

I created this piece for an exhibition at The Core Theatre, Solihull called Winter Folk. Let me tell you more about her.....

The Winter Keeper references women's strength within cultural traditions. In folk tradition, women took on the role of guardians and sustainers, holding seasonal knowledge and performing rituals that marked each season's passage, especially through harsh winters. This suggests endurance and authority passed down through generations.

The flowers adorning her like a ceremonial crown evoke folk ritual elements, worn for significance and power, not just for decoration. The softness of the blooms against the harsh winter background creates a powerful juxtaposition between fragility and resilience.

I have used striking collage against an energetic, harsh textured abstract background, using acrylic and spray paint, depicting the cold and windy environment of winter.

'SOLIDARITY'
MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS
80CM X 60CM

This painting explores winter's paradox of isolation amongst crowds; figures that walk alone, surrounded yet separate, reflecting the season's darker emotional landscape. The title shifts focus from problem to solution; from loneliness to connection.

There are two strong female silhouettes stand firm against the lonely masses of people, which embody resilience and mutual support. I have used vibrant and fragmented colours that suggest both the complexity of individual experience and the beauty found in coming together.

"Solidarity" honours the strength of people supporting each other through harsh seasons, acknowledging community and connection as antidotes to isolation.

'SUNNY DAY'
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
60CM X 80CM

This vibrant mixed media piece radiates joy and optimism through its bold use of acrylics, inks and collage. A profile emerges from an explosion of warm oranges, pinks, and yellows, framed by a cheerful border of golden sunflowers.

The abstract, textured background creates movement and energy, while the simplified facial features—complete with an expressive eye and gentle smile—convey a sense of peaceful contentment. The layered composition celebrates the warmth and brightness of a perfect sunny day, inviting viewers to embrace positivity and find beauty in life's colorful moments.
